Quick and Easy Buying Guide

Carat weight: 1 carat = 200 milligrams = 6.5 mm diameter. Doubling weight doesn't double diameter.

Diamond clarity: FL/IF/VVS/VS = super expensive, near perfect. SI = best value if you can check a photo for obvious inclusions (defects).

Color: D-G = colorless, expensive, only if you have money to burn. H-J = best value. Can go lower in gold metal settings than white metal.

Cut: Better cut ratings let more light into a diamond, making it sparkle more. Very important property, don't skimp here.

Set a budget and minimum cut (Premium). Go J color for gold and I/H for white metals. Go searching for SI1/SI2 clarity diamonds at James Allen. Pick a diamond with small/no inclusions. Choose a ring setting and buy it risk-free (60-day returns).

2.34 Carat F Color SI1 Clarity Ideal Cut Round Cut Diamond

Don't try and assess diamond color from a photo - there's no need, as it's an F color - but you should be looking at the photo to check whether the diamond's SI1 clarity grading is due to any unacceptably visible defects and inclusions.

The Ideal cut means the diamond will sparkle significantly more in comparison to lower quality cut diamonds, maximizing attractiveness. For $27780, if you've done your shopping properly you should have a nice stone, so make sure you're plenty critical as you look at this stone. SI is short for for Slightly Included, which means this SI1 stone contains inclusions which are certainly visible at a zoom level of ten times and possibly to the naked eye, but which provide the potential for bargains if they are not.

F color diamonds are pretty much colorless, meaning they are included in the pure white diamond range. Put this 2.34 carat size in the right reference frame when you weigh up your buying choices - there are going to be other diamonds of about the same size which could provide more in terms of their cost and characteristics.
