Quick and Easy Buying Guide

Carat weight: 1 carat = 200 milligrams = 6.5 mm diameter. Doubling weight doesn't double diameter.

Diamond clarity: FL/IF/VVS/VS = super expensive, near perfect. SI = best value if you can check a photo for obvious inclusions (defects).

Color: D-G = colorless, expensive, only if you have money to burn. H-J = best value. Can go lower in gold metal settings than white metal.

Cut: Better cut ratings let more light into a diamond, making it sparkle more. Very important property, don't skimp here.

Set a budget and minimum cut (Premium). Go J color for gold and I/H for white metals. Go searching for SI1/SI2 clarity diamonds at James Allen. Pick a diamond with small/no inclusions. Choose a ring setting and buy it risk-free (60-day returns).

F color diamonds are usually described as the colorless diamonds, amongst the purest white diamonds available for sale. The Girdle Thickness of this diamond is "Thin to slightly thick" - you can consult my piece on diamond girdles if you want to find out more about how girdle thickness can play an important role. Consider whether you are really set on the 0.71 carat weight that this diamond is - or whether you can stretch to buy a bigger rock. Many different diamond sellers will offer an Ideal cut diamond cut grading, and these diamonds are usually (as is the situation here) perfect in terms of proportions and the overall shape.

Usually VS2 clarity diamonds are the best value "safe" clarity grading in terms of purchasing online without a photo - you can go to a lower clarity grading but then you need to see a high quality photo showing the diamond to analyze the defects for yourself. This diamond's $3090 price is a major chunk of money for many people, but the tradeoff is a superior stone than if you were to only spend a few hundred dollars.
