Quick and Easy Buying Guide

Carat weight: 1 carat = 200 milligrams = 6.5 mm diameter. Doubling weight doesn't double diameter.

Diamond clarity: FL/IF/VVS/VS = super expensive, near perfect. SI = best value if you can check a photo for obvious inclusions (defects).

Color: D-G = colorless, expensive, only if you have money to burn. H-J = best value. Can go lower in gold metal settings than white metal.

Cut: Better cut ratings let more light into a diamond, making it sparkle more. Very important property, don't skimp here.

Set a budget and minimum cut (Premium). Go J color for gold and I/H for white metals. Go searching for SI1/SI2 clarity diamonds at James Allen. Pick a diamond with small/no inclusions. Choose a ring setting and buy it risk-free (60-day returns).

Weighing up the $344590 cost for this diamond, put in some thought into whether you need all the properties to be as good as they are. Usually VS1 clarity diamonds are the most affordable "safe" clarity rating for purchasing online without seeing the diamond - you can go to a lower clarity grading but then you need to see a high quality photo of the diamond to analyze the defects for yourself.

For more information on the "Medium, faceted" girdle of this diamond, check out the article I wrote on girdle thickness. To the unassisted human eye, this F color diamond by itself appears completely white and pure - there is no method to detect any color in it utilizing only the human eye and no other nearby diamonds, or to differentiate it from others within the colorless range. The Ideal cut ensures the diamond will sparkle significantly more than lower quality cut diamonds, maximizing attractiveness.

If you are looking at this diamond and thinking to yourself that you want to improve another property of the diamond which don't affect size, you may wish to reduce the 5.15 carat weight of this diamond.
