Quick and Easy Buying Guide
Carat weight: 1 carat = 200 milligrams = 6.5 mm diameter. Doubling weight doesn't double diameter.
Diamond clarity: FL/IF/VVS/VS = super expensive, near perfect. SI = best value if you can check a photo for obvious inclusions (defects).
Color: D-G = colorless, expensive, only if you have money to burn. H-J = best value. Can go lower in gold metal settings than white metal.
Cut: Better cut ratings let more light into a diamond, making it sparkle more. Very important property, don't skimp here.
Set a budget and minimum cut (Premium). Go J color for gold and I/H for white metals. Go searching for SI1/SI2 clarity diamonds at James Allen. Pick a diamond with small/no inclusions. Choose a ring setting and buy it risk-free (60-day returns).
This 1.34 Carat F Color VS2 Clarity Premium Cut Round Cut Diamond for Sale
An F color diamond such as this diamond is guaranteed to appear pure white, unless you hold it up against a diamond of D color and in this situation even then it will be hard to tell for most amateurs.

If you're a cautious online purchaser, then this VS2 clarity diamond is relatively safe bet, since the chances are low of it having any inclusions that are visible to the naked eye. This diamond's girdle is "Thin to slightly thick", which plays a role in the shine and apparently width of a diamond, as written about in my diamond girdle article.
Think about whether you're entirely set on the 1.34 carat weight that this diamond is - perhaps you are able to extend a bit more to buy a larger diamond. F color diamonds are pretty much colorless - they are part of the pure white group of diamonds. The visual attractiveness of this diamond will be quite good because of its Premium cut, although not quite as good as the more expensive higher-rated cut grades. For $10290, if you've done your shopping properly you should have a nice stone; ensure that you are harsh in your judgement when you're looking at this stone.
